Why you may want to hire someone to do this for you:
Specialty cutting equipment is required. It is also incredibly easy to miss-cut by several foot - as unlikely as it sounds leading to more trips, time and resources spent at the lumber store. Additionally, if you purchase an actual trim kit, there is only a couple feet of “extra” in the package allowed for mistakes. When working with a custom trim that has been painted or stained in advance - mistakes are the worst because purchasing more of the custom trim is an option, but the color match will not be the same. Cutting angles can be a source of frustration and insecurity.
Pro Tip:
Know where your studs are and beware of the wavy wall. Walls have waves in them, they are not flat. It is common to push trim tight against wall, even when it is wavy - but then you wind up with very noticeable squiggly trim. Instead - never push your trim against the wall. The correct balance of getting close to the wall without the wave and adding caulking across the top does the trick.
